12-01-08 Finally took time to start on the Merc. tonight after work. tore all the frontend apart, started striping paint and pounding sheetmetal. pulled alot of Bondo out, like the trim and light holes that were just filled with bondo and not welded up. Also see the pic of the front suspension, I think I will bag it, this thing needs to be low.
1946 Mercury Coupe. The car apears to have been built in Cali. around the mid to late Eighties. It shows some age and needs a serious update in style. I plan on leaving it tubbed and I might leave the 440 big block Chrysler, not that I am a Mopar fan, but it does run very good. Maybe with the right cam and some flowmasters it will have the sound I am looking for to go with the Monster rear tires. If not, I have a 454 Chevy and th400 combo waiting. I know that is a little common, but, everyone runs them for a reason!
The car was well built and has a Mustang II front with GM disc, power brakes under the floor, Nine inch ford rear, Ron Francis wire works harness, GM tilt column and a few other goodies that will stay.
The body came from Southern Cali. and has no rust to speak of. For around mid Florida that is a nice change.
My daughter named the car "Cool Blue" so now that name stuck. That in turn got me thinking, looks like the car will go with a Hawaii/surf theme with surfboards, hula girls, bamboo, even some flowers. Sounds a little odd, but I can make it work. Main color will be a royal blue pearl, gotta lose the eighties baby blue. I will have it in some "cool blue" primer soon and start playing with the art work. I will document and update all the things I do to this car (if I remember to take pics) so you can see the progress.
Thanks for looking, and check for updates from time to time. Also, if anyone knows the history on this car, please contact me and let me know. Thanks, Wes
I am looking for some stock grille and front trim parts, if you have some for sale, please let me know.
